7 Keys to Walk by Faith in Difficult Times

Life can throw unexpected challenges our way—moments when it feels like faith is all we have left. But the Bible gives us powerful principles to help us stand strong and walk by faith, especially during trying seasons. Below are seven biblical keys to help you grow and stay rooted in faith, one after the other.

1. Hear the Word of God Daily

Romans 10:17 — “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”

Faith is born and strengthened through the consistent hearing of God’s Word. Just as we eat physical food daily, our spirit needs a daily intake of faith-filled messages. Make it a habit to listen to teachings, read Scripture, or meditate on God’s promises every day. Faith grows as we continually tune our ears to God’s voice.

2. Speak and Decree the Word

Luke 17:5-6 — “If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.”

The issue is often not how much faith we have, but whether we are using it. Faith must be spoken. Whether your faith feels big or small, it becomes effective only when expressed.

Mark 11:22-23 reinforces this truth: “Whoever says to this mountain… and believes… it will be done for him.”

2 Corinthians 4:13 adds, “I believed, and so I spoke.”

Faith has a voice—speak what you believe.

3. See the Word in Your Imagination

Faith also works through spiritual vision.

Jeremiah 1:11-12 — God asked the prophet, “What do you see?” and affirmed the vision as aligned with His Word.

Genesis 15 shows how God helped Abraham overcome unbelief by giving him a vision—stars in the sky to represent his descendants.

God’s Word must not only be heard and spoken—it must be seen with the eyes of your heart. See yourself healed, victorious, provided for. This fuels your faith.

4. Pray in the Spirit

Jude 1:20 — “But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit.”

Praying in tongues is a supernatural way to strengthen your inner man and activate your faith. It edifies your spirit and aligns your heart with heaven, especially when your mind feels overwhelmed.

5. Be Established in Righteousness

Isaiah 54:14 — “In righteousness you shall be established; you shall be far from oppression…”

Faith cannot flow through a condemned heart. The devil will always try to remind you of your past failures, but you must stand firm in the truth: You are the righteousness of God in Christ (2 Cor 5:21). When you know your right standing with God, fear and oppression lose their grip.

6. Glorify and Magnify God

What you focus on becomes bigger in your life. Are you magnifying your problems or your God?

Romans 4:20 — “Abraham grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God.”

Numbers 13 reveals how the ten spies magnified the giants, while only Joshua and Caleb magnified the promise. Magnifying God strengthens your faith and shifts your perspective.

7. Walk with People of Faith

Proverbs 13:20 — “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.”

Faith is contagious—but so is doubt. Surround yourself with people who believe God, speak life, and walk in victory. The right associations can fuel your faith, while the wrong ones can slowly erode it.

Final Thoughts

Faith is not a one-time act; it’s a daily walk. And like walking, it happens one step after another—hearing, speaking, seeing, praying, standing in righteousness, glorifying God, and walking with the right people. Keep these keys in motion and your faith will stand strong, no matter how tough the season.
