The Ignorant Christian

What does the word ignore mean?
refuse to take notice of or acknowledge; disregard intentionally.

So the Ignorant Christian is one who intentionally disregards something in relation to his/her Christian Faith.

From my experience with Christian people, I have noticed three very specific areas which Christians ignore in their day to day life.

1. The first area of uttermost importance is PRAYER. Prayer is communion (the sharing or exchanging of intimate thoughts and feelings, especially when the exchange is on a mental or spiritual level) with God. It’s having a conversation with Jesus Christ. Remember, in every conversation there are two parties involved. When one talks, the other listens. When the other talks, the first one listens. It’s a two-way street. When you talk, God listens patiently. When God talks, you need to listen patiently as well. Let’s see what Jesus’s attitude was towards Prayer.

Luke 6:12 NLT
[12] One day soon afterward Jesus went up on a mountain to pray, and he prayed to God all night.

There are some very important things we can learn from Jesus here.
a. First, Prayer was a Priority in Jesus’s life. Even thou He did God’s work entire day, from morning till evening, He still made time for prayer. For Jesus, Prayer was not an option, it was a Necessity
b. Secondly, Jesus spend Quality Time in prayer. All night is not a short time. The more time you spend in prayer, the more Intimate your relationship is with God; the better you will understand God’s will and Direction for your life and others.
c. Thirdly, Jesus separated himself from others and went to a place where He would not be Distracted when He is praying. The world we live in now is so full of distractions that Prayer can become an impossible task to accomplish daily. The solution is simple: Separate Yourself from the Distractive Environment.

2. The second area is the Word of God. For a believer not to engage himself/herself in the Word of God is to give-up life itself. Jesus said it very well in John 6:63. Have a look below:

John 6:63 NLT
[63] The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

You see friends, the Words in the Bible are Spirit filled and Life filled. You absorb that spirit filled life as you Read, Study, Meditate and Obey the Word of God. Have a look at the verse below which advises us on how to handle God’s Word.

Joshua 1:8 NLT
[8] Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.

A simple study of the verse above illustrates three eye-catching points.

a. We need to Study the Word of God. An easy way to do this is by using Bible Study Tools. As a start-off, get a Parallel Bible, a good Bible Commentary and a Study Bible. To study the Word of God means to break it down word by word and dissect the meaning to the very core. Strong’s Concordance might be very helpful in accomplishing this apart from the other tools mentioned previously. Also take a moment to Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to open your spiritual eyes as you study the Word of God.
b. We need to Meditate the Word of God. What does it mean to meditate? To meditate means to Mutter the Word of God under your breath continually till it becomes a part of you. Once it becomes a part of you, you will speak it like every day normal talk and act upon that promise with full confidence. The greater advantage of meditation is that it brings about the Manifestation of the Promise you are meditating upon. Meditation is very close to Confession except that it is done with a very low voice, only enough for you to hear it.
c. We need to Obey the Word of God. This is a very crucial point. A lot of people take the time to study and meditate on the Word of God, but they refuse to obey it. The whole purpose of Studying and Meditating upon the Word is to form a Habit of obeying it. If this third part is not done, studying and meditating becomes a Waste of Time, Totally Unfruitful. For example, we can all be quoting that God your Word says that you will open up the flood gates of Heaven and pour down such a blessing that we will not have room even to store it according to Malachi 3:10, but unless we bring our tithes and offerings to the church, how can we except God to bless us in our financial area? Your action works hand in hand with studying and meditating on the Word of God. To disobey the Word is to forfeit all of Gods blessings and promises in this life. Remember that there are over seven thousand promises in the Holy Bible.

3. The third area is the Assembly of Believers. This is one of the most basic requirements for a Successful Christian Life. God knows that a believer can never make on his own. That’s why He commanded us to gather or meet or assemble for encouraging, supporting and nourishing each other especially in the spiritual area. Our church has three kinds of meetings which are done either on a weekly basis (Sunday Service and Bible Study) or monthly (Home Prayer Meetings). Have a look at the verse below:

Hebrews 10:25 NLT
[25] And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

There are three very important points that the writer of Hebrews makes here.
a. We should not neglect (ignore) Assembling of Believers.
b. There are people amongst us who are clearly Breaking this Commandment
c. We should encourage the assembly of believers because Jesus can show up anytime to take His church. When believers are busy in the things of the World, there is a probability that they might Miss the Rapture. Remember, sin has a way of turning believers’ hearts away from God and His people. Satan is the God of this world. Don’t give Him any foothold in your life.
