The Widows Offering: Mark 12:41-44 NASBS

[41] And He sat down opposite the treasury, and began observing how the people were putting money into the treasury; and many rich people were putting in large sums. [42] A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which amount to a cent. [43] Calling His disciples to Him, He said to them, "Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the contributors to the treasury; [44] for they all put in out of their surplus, but she, out of her poverty, put in all she owned, all she had to live on."

There are seven very important points God revealed to me when I was studying the above scripture verses. Here’s what the Holy Spirit taught me:

  1. God pays attention to how you give! Any person who tells you that God does not care about your giving is either lying to you or simply has not read the word of God.

  2. God measures your giving by how much you hold back, not by the amount your give.

  3. You’re giving plays a major part in your accumulation of heavenly treasure or your reward in heaven.

  4. You’re giving is a clear indication of how much you love God and care about his work on earth.

  5. Giving is a form of worship which has high stakes in the kingdom of heaven.

  6. You’re giving on earth determines your portion in heaven.

  7. Giving for God’s work on earth is a heavenly investment. Make no mistake about it.

There are several scriptures to backup each point I have listed. Have a look at the verses below:

Matthew 6:19-21 NASB

[19] "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. [20] But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; [21] for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 19:21 NASB

[21] Jesus said to him, "If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."

Mark 10:21 NASB

[21] Looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him and said to him, "One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."

Luke 12:21 NASB

[21] So is the man who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

Luke 12:33-34 NASB

[33] "Sell your possessions and give to charity; make yourselves money belts which do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near nor moth destroys. [34] For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Luke 18:22 NASB

[22] When Jesus heard this, He said to him, "One thing you still lack; sell all that you possess and distribute it to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."

There are many other verses but I will stop here. I want you to notice that every verse I have listed is a direct quote from the mouth of Jesus Christ. Some folks think that the words of Jesus has greater authority than the words of the Apostles who wrote by the inspiration of the same spirit that worked in Jesus. That’s the reason I listed only verses which were directly spoken by Jesus. The truth is that the entire Bible is inspired by the Holy Spirit; not just the Gospels. Hopefully the verses above clarify and remove any doubt you may have about the seven points I wrote. Thank you for reading and have a blessed day.
